U.S.-ARAB CHAMBER WELCOMES FINANCIAL LEADERS TO WASHINGTON, D.C.
On the Eve of IMF / World Bank Talks, NUSACC’s Annual Reception for Arab
World Delegates Offers Hospitality, Respite
In conjunction with the World Bank/International Monetary Fund annual meetings taking place in Washington DC this weekend, the National U.S.-Arab Chamber of Commerce (NUSACC) today hosted some 400 leaders from throughout the Arab world at a "welcome reception" for delegates.
The U.S.-Arab Chamber kickoff event -- the only one of its kind -- brings together finance ministers, central bank governors, ambassadors, bankers, and a wide range of business leaders from the 22 Arab nations. "Our chamber is honored to host these dignitaries on day one of the IMF / World Bank meetings,” said David Hamod, President & CEO of the National U.S.-Arab Chamber of Commerce. "This is the fourth year that NUSACC has hosted this high-level gathering, and we are privileged to welcome so many decisionmakers from throughout the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.”
The lead sponsor for this year’s reception was Qatar Airways, the world’s five-star airline, which was named “Airline of the Year” at the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards in June. Other corporate sponsors this year included market leaders Boeing, Booz Allen Hamilton, Citi, and Lockheed Martin. (To qualify for sponsorship, companies must be Platinum members of the U.S.-Arab Chamber.)
The Chamber’s reception takes place against a backdrop of economic uncertainty in the United States, Europe, and elsewhere in the world, including China. Central bankers, finance ministers, and corporate leaders are engaged in high-level discussions this weekend about the most effective ways to stave off recession and revive their respective economies. NUSACC’s event, which took place at the elegant Four Seasons Hotel, offered beleaguered financial leaders a short but welcome respite from worldwide economic troubles.
The NUSACC reception, the only private social event during the IMF / World Bank weekend that is geared to all nations of the Arab world, is rapidly becoming an annual tradition. H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Saoud Al Thani, Governor of the Central Bank of Qatar, has become a regular attendee in recent years. He noted, “We commend the National U.S.-Arab Chamber of Commerce for its leadership and for providing such a warm welcome for delegates from all over the Arab world. Hospitality is an important part of Arab tradition, and this heartfelt and generous welcome by the U.S.-Arab Chamber is deeply appreciated.”
