U.S.-ARAB CHAMBER, IN WASHINGTON STATE, CONGRATULATES BOEING ON FIRST DELIVERY OF 787 DREAMLINER
At Boeing Headquarters, NUSACC President & CEO
Lauds Event as a “Remarkable Achievement for
Boeing and All Americans”
In the State of Washington today, the National U.S.-Arab Chamber of Commerce (NUSACC) congratulated Boeing on the delivery and flyaway of its first 787 Dreamliner aircraft as a crowd of thousands looked on.
“Today we celebrate a significant moment in the history of flight,” said Jim McNerney, Boeing’s Chairman, President and CEO. “The 787 Dreamliner is the biggest innovation in commercial aviation since the Boeing 707 introduced the world to passenger jet travel more than 50 years ago. I want to thank [first delivery customer] ANA and all the employees of Boeing and our partner companies for the talent, technology and teamwork that have brought this game-changing airplane to life.”
“We congratulate Boeing on the delivery of this first-of-its-kind airliner,” noted David Hamod, President and CEO of the U.S.-Arab Chamber, who was on hand to celebrate the occasion. “This is a remarkable achievement, not only for Boeing, but for all Americans.”
Martin Bentrott, Boeing’s Vice President for International Sales – Commercial Airplanes, welcomed NUSACC’s David Hamod and other VIPs to Boeing this morning. In his welcoming remarks, Bentrott highlighted the importance of customers in the Arab world, who will soon take delivery of 787 Dreamliners themselves. He noted, “Boeing’s relationship with the Middle East goes back more than 65 years when U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt presented a DC-3 Dakota to King Abdulaziz Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia. Today, the Middle East continues to be one of Boeing’s most important markets as we work with our customer airlines to provide optimum solutions for their fleet needs, which include the 787 Dreamliner. Based on our 20-year Current Market Outlook, we estimate that the Middle East will need 2,520 new airplanes valued at $450 billion over the next two decades for fleet renewal and growth. We are very excited about the potential of this region and look forward to meeting the fleet needs of our customers and growing our partnership into the future.”
The first commercial aircraft made from composite materials, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is also the first mid-size airplane capable of flying long-range routes, allowing airlines to initiate new non-stop options to serve international travelers. In addition to providing airlines with unprecedented fuel economy and low operating costs, the 787 features a host of new technologies that greatly enhance the passenger experience. Examples of these technologies include cleaner cabin air, higher humidity, and lower cabin altitude that combine to help travelers feel more refreshed after flying on the 787. Other innovations include larger windows with electrochromic shades, bigger onboard luggage bins, and LED lighting.
The 787 represents a fundamental change in airplane design and production. Thanks to the incorporation of composite materials to most of its airframe, it will provide our customers with dramatic improvements in fuel efficiency and maintenance costs, a substantially smaller environmental footprint in noise and emissions, and a passenger experience that will make travel more comfortable and enjoyable. Other innovations include maximized energy efficiencies through higher utilization of electrically powered systems and optimized aerodynamics. Embodied in this groundbreaking machine are 95 years of Boeing aerospace know-how; along with the talent, technology and teamwork not only of the core 787 team but also of employees from across the company, our global partners and our visionary 787 customers.
Jim Albaugh, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, characterized the Dreamliner as the “first new airplane of the 21st century.” He concluded, “It’s not often that we have the chance to make history, do something big and bold that will change the world in untold ways and endure long after we are gone.”
